Other Games / Squad
« on: April 08, 2015, 01:44:32 PM »
For those of you looking for a military FPS with a bit more realism and teamplay, and a little less unlocks, this might be keeping an eye on.

Squad is due to release next year and is currently on Steam Greenlight and Kickstarter.  The devs previously worked on the Project Reality mod for BF2 and are looking to make the game they wanted to with that, without the limitations of the old engine.

Technical / New Feature for DirectX 12?
« on: February 27, 2015, 08:27:06 PM »
According to new rumours, Microsoft's new API will allow multi-GPU configurations beyond SLI/Crossfire:,news-28606.html

So rather than needing 2 identical graphics cards, we could be putting any old card we have lying around for a performance boost...interesting to see if it happens, and if any developers use it...

Other Games / Gamespy shutting down - Battlefield games affected
« on: May 15, 2014, 01:30:15 PM »
Looks like the end of Gamespy services later this month is going to have a knock-on effect to a load of PC games.  Apparently over 500(!) games used Gamespy for the multiplayer functions and many will stop working after the service ends.

A lot of them aren't used much anymore and others have been patched to remove the need for Gamespy, but it turns out EA haven't done so.  So after 30th June, Battlefield 1942, BF2, 2142 and the original Vietnam will stop working in multiplayer.  Some of the mods like Project Reality have their own rank servers so they will continue to run, but it will be the end of vanilla BFs prior to BC2 :o

And a more complete list of affected games:

Other Games / Anyone remember Homeworld?
« on: March 09, 2014, 08:08:05 PM »
Back in the late 90s Homeworld created a new type of strategy game, using full 3D movement and a persistent fleet, and with a Battlestar Galactica-style campaign.  For those who remeber and enjoyed it (like me!) Gearbox have announced a remastered edition:

One advantage to THQ's collapse I suppose ;)

Other Games / Batman: Arkham Origins
« on: February 12, 2013, 10:43:56 PM »   :)  :)  :)

When I first saw this confirmed today (in a forecast by Warner Bros, not an official announcement) I was

But then I saw that Rocksteady, who made the first 2 games, aren't involved with this one, I was a bit

But I'm just gonna keep my fingers crossed and wait for the official news....

Other Games / Get 'em while they're cheap!
« on: February 03, 2013, 10:27:09 PM »
We've got threads for the Steam and Origin sales, but they're not the only places you can pick up a bargain nowadays...
So I thought I'd create a thread for any special offers you happen to spot while trawling the net  :D

The Square-Enix store has 75% of pretty much anything atm, including the Hitman, Deus Ex and Tomb Raider series, as well as Sleeping Dogs.  Worth checking out, although I'm not sure if it's available outside the UK.... ???

Technical / For those with Origin password issues
« on: October 16, 2012, 08:28:15 PM »
Been having all sorts of issues with surfy's Origin account, she's been unable to get on the servers all night.  Origin prompted for a password reset and afterward had been unable to get in.

Turns out it's a known issue (surprise, surprise).  If Origin needs a password reset and you do it through the Origin website, it doesn't actually fix the error - it changes your password but EA online doesn't recognise it, so you can no longer log in to any of your online EA games  ::)

So if you have this problem, use this website to reset it instead:

and set your password back to the last one that was working with BF3.  This overrides Origin and makes it "forget" the error.  DICE are working on a fix but until then, this will resolve it.  I stand by my Battlelog comment...

Other Games / Dragon Age 3:Inquisition
« on: September 17, 2012, 06:24:56 PM »
After the rumours about a third game being in the works, Bioware have finally come out and confirmed that Dragon Age 3 will be released next autumn.

I really enjoyed the first 2 games and the list of upcoming RPGs was looking pretty empty, so this is great news :D
